One more jewel in the crown of Gulzar saab as he has
been chosen for this years Sahitya Akademy Award for his short storybook Dhuaan. Heartiest congratulations
to Gulzar saab on this achievement from all Gulzarfans .
=life-time achievement award=
Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan presented a life-time achievement award
to Gulzar saabin New York.
The award was given away at a function on Sunday night organized by one of the oldest American
Indian body, Association of Indians in America.
The citation listed his achievements including as poet, film-maker and director. He spoke about Gulzar's
achievements and involvement in almost all facets of movie-making and 
said no one deserved the award more than him.
The night itself was devoted to Gulzar and several of his poems were
sung by various artistes. Particularly appreciated was Uma Dogra's dance set to the tune of Gulzar's poem 'Aankhon me saawan'.
Gulzar saab recited some of his popular poems like 'Sarhad paar se' and 'Kitaabein'
=Kharaashein now in the form of a book=
Kharaashein, The famous play of Salim Arif woven around the stories and poerty of Gulzar is now available
in the form of a book. The book is recently released by Radhakrishna Prakashan Delhi. The book not only features the script
of the play but also provides some photographs during its shows and cast credits. Kharaashein was first staged in July 2002
in Mumbai. Since then it has been staged in various parts of India and received critical acclaim from all over.
=Gulzar's Next Film ?=
[thru unconfirmed sources ] Gulzar saab is going to start his next film very soon... but this film wont
be a Hindi film but Bangla film... The film is based on a Rabindranath Tagore's creation Shesher Kobita (Last Poem). It is
expected that Rituparno Sengupta will play the leading lady... will post more details after confirmation... Presently Gulzar
saab is busy in shooting for Munshi Premchand's Stories for Doordarshan.

=Awaaz mein lipati Khamoshi
- A book on a letter to Gulzar=
Recently a book was released in Lahore, Pakistan titled "Awaaz mein liptee khamoshi". The whole book is one long letter of
142 Pages, written to Gulzar by Mr. Gulsher Butt of Lahore. The book is a unique effort as Mr. Gulsher Butt has covered Gulzar
Sahab's stories, songs, poems, Ghazaliyaat and information available on the internet and the interesting fact is the Mr. Gulsher
Butt has never met Gulzar Saab in person or even heard Gulzar saab's voice. The book starts with the verse from gulzar saab:

Gulzar-Rahman's new film Saathiya's music is out and available...
Saathiya is the debute directional venture of Shaad Ali (Son of Mujaffar Ali) presented by yashraj films. Saathiya, a Vivek
Oberoi-Rani Mukherjee, Shahrukh Khan starrer, is a remake of tamil superhit "Alai payuthe"[[a maniratnam film]- Sakhi in Teleugu].
The TV Promos are airing the Title song "saathiya"... [Pachai nirme of Alai payuthe]. Alai payuthe was a good mix of melody
and rythm and sounds youthful.... ARR won filmfare award for the film..
At the first listening, the album sounds great specially for those who haven't introduced to its its Tamil original Alaiyapayuthe
... Rahaman's compositions, gulzar's words and Singers rendering have blended together well... There are few surprises, one
Punjabi song sung by Rahman [I bet if you dont take a look at credits, you wont know its Rahman], and one by Adnan Sami...
Asha Bhosle's Chori pe chori is the one which doesn't feel as good as its Tamil original "September Madham" of Alaiyapuyuthu
otherwise all songs are as good as Tamil album... Two new songs are added in the Hindi version one, the Rahman number and
other one is another good number by Sadhan Sargam and Madhushree...

=Pinjar=
Pinjar, a film based on a story of Amrita Pritam,
was recently launched. Gulzar saheb will provide the lyrics for the film. The music is by Uttam Singh. The film directed by
Chandra Prakash Dwiwedi ("Chanakya" fame) will feature Urmila Mattondkar and Manoj Bajpai in the leading roles.
=Shafaq
=
After AKS, Gulzar saheb is working for another psychopathic-thriller Shafaq, with the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for
Mamooty- Raveena starrer. The film is being directed by debutant Bapaditya Rao.
=Laal Salaam =
The team which
provided us haunting melodies in Lekin and Maya Memsaab is together again. Gulzar saheb is working with Lata Mangeshkar and
Hridaynath Mangeshkar for Laal Salaam, a low budget film produced by Sanjeev Karambelkar and directed by Gaganvihari Borate.
Music Director Hridyanath Mangeshkar recently recorded all six songs for the film.
Nandita Das, Sharad Kapoor and
Makarand Deshpande are the main stars in this high tension naxal drama. The audio is soon to be released on Saregama-HMV.
. =AB Corps Film=
Gulzar saheb will be penning the lyrics of ABCorp's next venture. The yet untitled film
will feature Amir Khan in the main lead and brother Mansoor Khan will be the director. Anu Malik will be giving the music.
=Leela=
Lemon Tree Production a Hollywood company, launched their maiden venture Leela, with Dimple Kapadia and
Vinod Khanna in the lead cast. Gulzar saheb is providing lyrics for this international venture for the compositions tuned
by Jagjeet singh and Shantnu Moitra(Abke saawan fame). The film, story of an Indian-Americal immigrant boy, will be shot at
US in the coming months. The film is directed by Somnath Seth and produced by two indian americans Kavita Munjal and Anjlika
Mathur.
=Birf=
Gulzar saheb writes lyrics for Birf(snow), for the debutant director Vishal Bhardwaj (yes,
you got it right, the music director Vishal ventures into film direction). Recently a number of songs recorded for the film.
The music director is Vishal ofcourse!. watch out for more details in coming days.
=Triveni=
A great news
for the fans of poet Gulzar. A new poetry collection titled "Triveni" is released in Urdu and Hindi."Triveni" by Rupa&Co
features the collection of trivenis by Gulzar saheb. Triveni is an innovative form of peotry which is a bit different from
the usual forms like sher and ghazal. Unlike shers, the trivenis are written with three misra's (three lines of poetry) where
first two lines forms a complete sher and the introduction of third misra(line) gives the sher a new dimension or meaning.
Sher ko kuchh naye maani mil jaate hain... ek baangi dekhiye...
Haath mila kar dekha aur kuchh soch ke mera naam liya
Jaise ye sarwark kisi novel pe pahle dekh hai --

Gulzar saab has recently completed his new book, a tribute to Mirza Ghalib titled "Mirza Ghalib
- A Biographical Scenario". The book features the life and times of the legendary poet from eighteenth century in an unusual
manner. The sketches are drawn straight from the works of ghalib. The scenes and stories are created from ghalib's poetry
couplets and nazms. Rather than telling the historical story of his times, gulzar saab's narrative is woven around ghalib's
couplets and the scenarios are created to explain why and how ghalib had written his magical couplets, ghazals and nazms.
On the release of the book gulzar saab described ghalib as one of the greatest poets ever lived. 
Vishal Bhardwaj is 'chup-ke se' ready with his next film titled 'The Blue Umbrella'
(aka Chhatari Chor). Pankaj Kapoor is playing the lead with Shreya a new comer child artist. Gulzar saab has once again written
some lovely numbers for the film... 
Honorable President Abdul Kalaam's auto-biography titled Agni Ki Udaan was recently released on SKY Music (more popularly
known as Karaditales Music). The complete audiobook is translated and narrated by Gulzar saab. The audiobook features narration
of the autobiography by Gulzar saab with background music by Three Brothers and a Voilin (remember Bandar-Bindaas-Bandar?).
A few devotional tracks in the voices of Shankar Mahadevan and Bombay Jayashree are also included within the narration. Watch
